Search Engine Traffic

May 3rd, 2006
Google Analytics logo

I’ve been meaning to write another post about which keyword phrases send the most traffic to Muskblog and the other day through my RSS feed from Peppermint Tea I learned of a plugin I’ve been waiting for someone to write. Yaakov Ellis has written a WordPress plugin that you can use to get your most popular postings out of Mint assuming you run Mint with your WordPress installation.

In addition to Mint I also have Google Analytics and Webalizer tracking things for me. One day I may have to get rid of one of the javascript based web analytics program but my site’s performance is still OK. Removing all those javascript calls would require updating every static page which can be done quickly it is the uploading that will take time.

So anyway here are the top 10 keyword phrases for Muskblog for the month of May according to Webalizer:

  1. huge calves
  2. tess yong
  3. yumi sekine
  4. korean girls
  5. wlanapi.dll
  6. a3ab9x.sys
  7. usbimgm3.sys
  8. pictures of vancouver
  9. trippy tunnel
  10. fidelity commercial song

Update December 2015

It seems another year is coming to an end and rather than studying for my CFA® exam I am editing old blog posts and trying to improve my blog, trying to turn it into an asset. I have put thousands of hours into this blog which makes me a blogging expert according to Malcolm Gladwell. I’m actually an expert in too many things based on the time I’ve invested into hobbies and interests, but alas none of them seem to pay the bills. I am hopeful 2016 will be a good year, I am long overdue for a good year and a good job. Hopefully all the work I’ve spent improving this website will finally payoff. I did succeed in improving the quality of keyword referrals I receive according to a recent review of the data in Google’s Webmaster Tools.

  • I just noticed I managed to rank in the top 10 on google for the phrase “big tits blog” without the quotations. The porn/spam bloggers are going to be pissed at me. No one has ever written me about any of my more dubious postings, well except Steve.

My current top ten most popular posts is dominated by ramblings about Asian women, a subject I’m not even sure I’m qualified to write about. That said I’m not really an expert on big tits either. That is the funny thing about the blogosphere. You can start a blog, ramble on, throw in some links, and you just might fool people into thinking you know something, or at least the search engines. If you know a little about search engine optimization, all the better.

  • As further testament to the surprising popularity of calves and the result of me putting in a little effort collecting links, photos, and of course writing my humorous but appreciative account, my search engine referrals are dominated by odd queries concerning this particular part of the female anatomy. Well that and Nurgle.

Somewhere along the lines I or some automagicical part of WordPress has linked to the Calf Crazy posting with and without the trailing slash in the URI. I looked at how I had things set up and even contacted the author of the plugin, though perhaps I should contact the Mint author instead.

Regardless if I don’t get this fixed my top ten will possibly have further duplicates, Calf Crazy already occupies the 1st and sixth positions currently. This might all be the result of how search engines index as I usually cut and paste any links I use right from the browser if I don’t have them memorized.

  • That is funny. I also have entries like that in my Analytics, those doesn't have anything to do with my blog but I get traffic from them. LOL!

  • You have to at least use the phrase or words, often in seperate posts is enough if they are in the same category… I've become some what well known for dubious keywords, and I keep digging myself a bigger hole.
