No power for days

This is our third consecutive day of no power in Deep Bay. BC Hydro won’t even guess when we will have it restored. There have been gusts of up to 100 Km per hour hitting Vancouver Island today and they expect the worst wind storm to actually hit the Island tomorrow or Friday morning.

I’ve driven North this time to a Serious Coffee shop in Courtney to check my email. Needless to say the lack of electricity and phone service hasn’t been very good for my never ending job search.

It also will prevent me from updating my website. I actually have a few ideas and no shortage of stuff to say. Not necessarily new original stuff, but more of the same old crap I always write about in some cases.

I’ll get around to it eventually I’m sure. I’ve taken some pictures of the latest storms but they won’t be online for a while either. I also have some plans for the end of the year…

We still have no power and the weather is getting worse. It is windier and colder and wetter than the previous two days. There are actually crews working on the power lines near our house. We have had our power off for four straight days now. The food in our freezer has probably spoiled.

We may get power back just in time for the worst wind storm of the bunch to hit the West Coast of Canada at around midnight tonight. I’m once again in Serious Coffee in Courtney. It is starting to snow in Cumberland…

I downloaded my email but it is mostly spam…

We still have no power, for going on five days. The latest biggest storm hit Victoria, Seattle, and Vancouver so we weren’t a priority before and we certainly aren’t now. The three poles that aren’t up right at the top of Gainsberg road are still not upright. No one is working on them, the Prince George guys must have been sent elsewhere.

This latest storm didn’t really do much more damage to the mid Island. But I don’t have a lot of sympathy for all the city slickers who woke up without power this morning and called 911 because they couldn’t make coffee…

I’m in Serious Coffee yet again to send my “Christmas Email”, funny enough I still don’t feel like celebrating.

[...] During our recent epic power outage I had even more time to think. One of the things I thought about was a story about the late great Townes Van Zandt. This story might be from a webpage, though it could have been from a magazine or a book, remember those? [...]

[...] Despite many power outages and a myriad of other problems, I’ve been working on the latest edition to my Nurgle 40K army. This is a Forgeworld Dreadnought I’ve dubbed “Blastmarker Billy”. This model was a lot of work to paint, so much so I’m not looking forward to painting any other Forgeworld models for a while. I won’t be painting anything for a while as I plan to put away my miniatures, paints, even the entire table for the holidays. [...]

[...] I’m really worried we will lose power either today or tomorrow. Our real Christmas dinner may be cancelled if that happens. I’m at home looking after the dog, keeping the house warm, and tasked with doing some gift wrapping. In addition to being able to cook, I can also wrap presents. [...]

[...] more snow and were more unexpected, but the storms of December had stronger gusts of wind and knocked out our power for longer. We actually lost power again yesterday. Needless to say having no power prevents you [...]
