Hodgepodge of Links
There is so much crap that comes across my desk, virtual or otherwise I don’t know where to start. Why not a posting concerning the truth, from the great Church of the Customer blog. I’m sure there is a lesson in this posting for some of my Sauder MBA Classmates…
This is old news, but I was always going to blog about it, but stuff happens. Anyway Porn.com sold for 9 million dollars. Pretty good money for a domain name.
Also via Webmaster World, a thread on online reputation management in Google. This was something else I talked about back in 2004 or 2005 during my MBA. I don’t know if this is a case of people not listening to me or not believing me, a lot of the latter happened during my MBA. I also seem to recall echoing the assertion that you are your Google results on Muskblog.
I’ve been giving a fair bit of my attention to the Video Game industry in Vancouver of late, maybe I should hit up some people I’ve met for a new job. I knew a lot of the brass at EA was going to be out of town for E3, but apparently a few other major announcements were in the works. It almost looks like horse trading between Microsoft and EA.
And right around the same time Lynda Brown, President of New Media BC announced she was moving on too.
Also of important news to me, China is officially Korea’s number one trading partner surpassing Japan. The Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC now) is rumored to be in the market for a large stake in a Korean bank. And of course Korea is negotiating Free Trade Agreements with the US, EU, ASEAN nations, and even Canada so that is important to keep on top of.
Over in Japan a recent study revealed that one in ten employees of small and medium sized business had thoughts of suicide. One in ten, that is in Japan, where people have a lot of pressure put on them by their peers, family, and employers and are always among the world leaders in suicides, but it also goes to show there are a lot of people out there having real difficulties and would definitely appreciate it if people treated them kinder…
And in China, a country that doesn’t really have an accurate estimate of the population of their own capital city, is now generally acknowledged as the third largest economy in the world. They have surpassed Germany and I guess Japan may be next. Good thing I’m an alumni of Tsinghua, but if I spoke perfect Mandarin I may already have a job at Google…
Miscellaneous Thoughts
I definitely prefer business casual, it is so much less work in the morning and much more comfortable too.
I also like East Vancouver, it is good to be around people crazier than I am. Some of the people on the lower East Side have been dealt some rough hands in life. Maybe they made a bad decision or two, but who hasn’t? Some are definitely self-abusive but I can relate to that too… Right now I got some sort of skin irritation, among my many, many larger problems. And there are itches I shouldn’t scratch. I know I shouldn’t scratch them. I know I’ll regret scratching them. I can go days without scratching them, but they remain always present, always available. You can try treatment, but it doesn’t necessarily work or work quickly enough…
As I chatted with a girl at the bus stop, I told her it was a good metaphor for a lot of things in East Vancouver.
I often add to my collection of quotations especially various song lyrics that rise up from the depths of my mind. It is one of the oldest things I placed online and since 1995 has been a source of inspiration, amusement, even comfort to me and others.
I saw Cowboy VS Samurai on Friday night, I’ll let someone else blog about that. I will say the first half is funny but there is a lot of profanity so you probably don’t want to take your grandmother.
I also was in my first Dragon Boat Race this weekend and once again I’ll let Todd blog about that.
Just when I was ready to give up entirely on online 40K forums, 40K in general, and maybe even on all of humanity… I notice some incoming traffic from Bolter and Chainsword, which given the competition may get my vote as best 40K online forum, they can make a banner saying that if they want. In some online circles, muschamp.ca is famous for more than just calves, the truth, and interviewing Baidu…
So anyway they have a thread over there which I must have posted on a year or more ago which is a collection of painted Marine and Chaos Marine armies. Some are OK, but some are insanely impressive. They actually cull the thread to get rid of the busted links and redundant posts. So rather than be redundant I decided to give them some free press over here at my blog.
I have no idea how I managed to paint as many models as I did. Given my current mental state, numerous numerous problems, bitterness and disappointment over my MBA, the damn CFA hanging over my head like the Sword of Damocles, I don’t know how I’ll paint the 10-20 more models I need to do in order to ‘complete’ in some sense the army I’ve been working on for over ten years, so that it is more logical under the new rules.
This will probably have to wait until 2008. Maybe my life will finally get better then. After 2005 it is hard to have a worse year, right Marlene?
