Civ IV and looking for work
How are they connected? Well after I’m done checking my email, RSS feeds, and key job boards, I’ve been spending hours playing Civilization IV Warlords. It has probably affected my sleep pattern. The Civilization style games are addictive and although Civ 5 is supposedly around the corner, now that I’m ‘funemployed’ to use Codrin’s term, I finally tried Civ IV on my new MacBook Pro.
It runs alright, though the graphics sometimes go all weird. It would probably run better if I shut off all my other apps before starting it, but I’ve gotten in the habit of always keeping browsers open, with certain websites in tabs, and of course my email client. BBEdit is also open along with Stickies, but MS Word I should shut down before I play again.
I don’t think Civ IV impacts my job search. I just spent an hour and half or more applying to one position that I’d really like to get, or at least get interviewed for. It is a bit of ‘deja vu’ as I applied for a very similar position years ago and just came up short. Hopefully several years more experience, my pursuit of the CFA designation, and my now suddenly very solid green credentials will help me out. I can’t say I found this position on Monster, Craigslist, or even LinkedIn. I found it on a recruitment company’s website, who has me on their mailing list from my post-MBA job search.
Today the weather is great, I wish I’d gone for a bike ride, but I’m hungry and I think I will go to Cafe Barney at Main and Broadway for something to eat and some human company. Civilization is great and all, but I don’t want to become a shutin. Tomorrow I will find another job to apply to and probably go to Vancouver Island for the weekend, as that is what my mom wants. Then when I get back I seriously have to work on my terrain project.
