Another WordPress update

WordPress Logo

Going to try out Jetpack and a few other new features and plugins. Hopefully it goes smoothly, can’t help thinking I’m going to have to edit my theme this time.

This post was made in WordPress 3.1, gotta remember to not use the non-HTML editor to take advantage of internal links…

Not that I’ll remember but here is the blurb I use in the Goodreads plugin. I wish plugins remembered their settings when I turn them off for an upgrade, after all it says to disable all plugins before upgrading…

<img src="[cover]" alt="[title] by [author]" />

Can’t figure out where the setting is to enable the non-HTML editor. I think I may have disabled it in a text file somewhere along the way…

I disabled the non-HTML editor in my user settings, that is fixed.

  • Disqus, Mint and Google Analytics are running, not so sure I need WP.com Stats on top of all that. More interested in seeing what they do with tags and what SimpeTags will do…

  • The other feature is Facebook integration, I use Network Blogs to publish (share) my posts with my friends on Facebook. WordPress.com has a one click easy way which I like better…

  • I get a WordPress.com bar above my page now on Muschamp.ca, hopefully this isn’t responsible for any funny rendering in Opera…

  • At least SEO Pager works with this addition of WordPress, we’ll see about them new plugins now…

  • Got rid of that bar that was messing with my rendering, now I miss it. At least I know my theme is still rendering correctly. Share Daddy and Add This seem to be direct competitors not sure which I’ll go with. Add This fits into my theme where I want it, and I already fought with it, but I’m not using their WordPress plugin. I just used some other HTML or javascript I got from somewhere…

  • Opted just to use the sharing code I was using, Simple Tags related posts is more important to me…

  • Opted just to use the sharing code I was using, Simple Tags related posts is more important to me…

  • I added the Yet Another Related Post Plugin and it disagrees with DISQUS to the point where I can’t comment when it is installed…

  • DISQUS is working, the previous comment was left with WordPress’s default comment system. It works just fine now, maybe I retire DISQUS as I liked the related posts feature that was in Simple Tags. Updating Simple Tags also busted the conditionals on my sidebar. You’d think this problem would be gone. It went away with my last WordPress update, but something some plugins do to the database likely busts it…

  • I upgraded to WordPress 3.1.1, I didn’t even backup before doing so. This is not advised, but I felt like living on the edge. ;-) We’ll see if Simple Tags and the recommended posts plugin work better now. I may install @Yoast ‘s SEO Plugin, enough people have been using it that most of the bugs should be worked out now.

  • Despite upgrading to WordPress 3.1.1 the Yet Another Related Posts Plugin and the DISQUS plugin are still completely incompatible. When you turn on the YARPP it works, but it becomes impossible to leave comments until you disable that plugin or DISQUS. I started a thread over at the WordPress forums, but just like always no one says or does anything…

  • I upgraded again.  Yet Another Related Posts Plugin still not getting along with Disqus.  Sidebar conditionals still returning incorrect data…  I updated the Digg Digg plugin and even added in support for Digg and Del.icio.us but Digg renders a bit funny…  I don’t know many people who use either…  I know I don’t.  Google +1 is the bigger fish.  Also himming and hawing about Facebook Share VS Facebook Like

  • I just finished updating to WordPress 3.4.1, Goodreads still doesn’t remember my account number or my custom URL, this time when I did it, I wrapped a link around the book… Also the WordPress SEO Pager plugin is not getting along with this addition and until it is fixed, my navigation is a bit fubar and I have to deactivate that plugin, may try Yet Another Related Post Plugin again…

  • I’ve left too many comments on this post, what I really need is to make a new post documenting the 17 plugins I was using, all but WordPress SEO Pager seem to work fine with WordPress 3.4.1, maybe the page is incompatible with one of the other 16 plugins. It is nice to have paginated navigation, but I had that before, not sure this plugin is worth the trouble for whatever SEO benefit I’m supposed to received. Still haven’t switched to Yoast’s almight plugin…
