Canada

I have lived, worked, studied, and traveled throughout Canada. Though I was born in Vancouver, I grew up mostly on the Island. I first posted to the Internet while a student at the University of Victoria. This blog however, was created while I was a student at the University of British Columbia.

My career took me all over Canada. I did co-op work terms in Victoria, Yellowknife, Calgary, and Ottawa. Later, I spent my MBA internship in Prince George.  I created this website while working in Vancouver and I’ve since documented both the 2010 Olympics and working in the DTES for a local non-profit.

So if you have questions about living, working, studying or traveling in Canada you should peruse this archive of blog posts below or you can send me a question using email or social media.

Urban farming becoming more main stream

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Once again SOLEfood was in the Vancouver Sun as they announced they were building a new larger urban farm in a much more visible location than Hastings and Hawkes. This is of course good news to see on Twitter and in main stream media. I was involved during the gestation period of the project that became SOLEfood. I remember when it was just a handful of people from a couple non-profits in the Downtown Eastside. There was a lot of difficulty securing land to use for urban farming and I seem to recall SOLEfood’s very first grant application being turned down…

One of the books in our possession is a self published volume entitled “The Dougans of Cobble Hill”.  This was produced by Nathan Dougan or based on his writings and documents in his possession.  It has a fairly accurate family tree for Dougans born in Canada and this can be corroborated by census data and such…
