Halloween: Space Dog and Alien

Monday, October 31st, 2011

We don’t have a lot of little kids in my immediate family, but my sister has two dogs.  They are Lab crosses and they are a lot of work. None the less my sister dressed them up and took them down to the local mall to enter them into a costume contest sponsored by Woofy’s. Huuna the space dog won, Rosie the evil twin, err alien, did not win.  Everyone thought the costumes were hilarious, we even took the dogs to the old folks home to see my grandmother.  My sister of course put the pictures on Facebook and even […]

Been Gardening

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Today was the first decent day in the last few so we got up early and finished our overhaul of the shrubberies near the front door of my mom’s house. I’d started on it last week, but I guess I got lazy and the weather got worse. We decided to add some new plants in areas formerly dominated by weeds and invasive species like grass, wild blackberries, and ivy.  I’d also given the ‘prickly bush’ a severe pruning in order to make more room for the Japanese Maple and the rhododendrons.  For reasons known only to my mom, the holly […]

Today wasn’t the best day. Last night I couldn’t sleep. I was reading “Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance” and I got up to look up a book on actual motorcycle maintenance, you’d be surprised how influential this book is. It is found in the philosophy section, but I’m more interested in the motorcycle maintenance and I guess the father son dynamic. My dad was a biker. Not a Hell’s Angel, he didn’t wear colors or leathers, though he had some riding leathers I’m sure of it. He took one of those big rides, down the Pacific Coast Highway […]

This is the big day

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

No not the Olympic Gold Medal Men’s Hockey Game, today my sister and mother have tickets to three events in which medals will be awarded. They are at the Bronze Medal Men’s Curling match, then they will be at the Gold Medal Men’s Curling match, then finally we are all going to the Bronze Medal Men’s Hockey Game. Go Finland! I’ve always liked Finish hockey players, one of my all time favourite players is Esa Tikkanen. I’ve been telling stories about him to the Aussies. I also was a huge Jari Kurri fan. I was a huge 80′s hockey fan […]

I had to kill our cat today.

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Not me personally, though I was worried I would have to last night. I had to take it to the vet to be put down. It has been something which has been discussed for years. Just the other day when I had dinner with both my grandmothers, they both said it was time to have him put down. Fred was old, so old we don’t remember exactly when he was born. He was born at our Lakes Road house in Duncan. We definitely lived there while I was in middle school, possibly even the last few years of elementary school. […]

Large Family Gathering

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

Yesterday, yes yesterday, we had a large family dinner at my mother’s house. It was a potluck, but still as the hosts we had to do more than our share of preparation. I never had to cook anything, but I did get up at 7am to start cleaning and setting up. I’d been cleaning and setting up for a while before yesterday. The reason for this gathering is one of my cousin’s on my mother’s side was home from Alberta. They work in Ft. McMurray so they don’t get back here much. They were only going to be on the […]

McKay Family Reunion

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

A few days ago we drove to Victoria for the McKay family reunion or a close approximation. This was my dad’s dad’s side of the family. Besides my mom and my sister I only had met one person who was at the house prior to November 5th, 2006…

Huuna also loves

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

In addition to peanut butter, Huuna also loves socks. Every morning she goes around and picks up yesterday’s socks off the floor. She tries to fit as many in her mouth as she can. “Socks” is one of the words she understands. You can really get her going by repeating it in a silly voice. Huuna also loves silly voices and sound effects, but who doesn’t. She’s still a big baby. She also likes salsa and chips. If the salsa is really spicey she probably wouldn’t be so enthusiastic, but she likes to eat human food. Although eating and playing […]
