Saturday, December 28th, 2013

After the authorship apocalypse of recent weeks, I actually looked inside Google Labs to see just what author rank was saying about the content I’ve self published online…

Relatively Popular Content

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013

Most people online are obsessed with popularity. A lot of time and effort gets spent trying to become more popular. How can I get more followers? How can I get more likes? How can I get more fans? How can I get more hits? How can I get higher rankings? How can I sell more widgets? With all the time and effort spent obsessing over popularity, you’d think more time and effort would be spent contemplating Quality…

Tracking social media button clicks in Google Analytics

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

The best way to track social media button clicks is to use a plugin in your CMS, I use Professional Share on this blog. It has most every feature I want except support for Twitter Cards. I’m hoping the author will add Twitter Card Support as he already supports Facebook Open Graph meta data. I have this domain and this blog, plus Facebook and Twitter were more than sufficient for me to share too much personal information online. Twitter lists and a good RSS reader keep me well informed without having to use Google+.

So what use is Google+?

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

During my most recent period of unemployment, I’ve tried to brush up on some of my skills, perversely one thing I’ve spent a lot of time doing is writing PHP. I’m not a big fan of PHP but I seem to have written and most importantly maintained some code I used to make web mashups, but other people could use for their own evil purposes…

Superbowl hammers home superiority of Twitter

Monday, February 4th, 2013

I wasn’t the first to say it, but it is something I’ve noticed for a long time in my own social media usage, Twitter is #winning. Twitter has received a lot of credit for breaking news stories, for helping activists and rebels organize, and now it has become the favourite of marketers and sports fans…
