So what is a Trackback?

As I’m still new to the whole blogging scene, as are a number of my loyal readers, I thought I would delve a little deeper into the various features of a blog. I’ve already written about RSS so now I’m moving on to Trackback. There are already a number of articles online on how Trackbacks work, but some of my readers might not even know of the existance of Trackback. Trackback is another one of those little links you see at the bottom of a post similar to the RSS feed. Basically if used correctly it lets other bloggers know that you are reading their blog and talking about it on your own blog.

The Trackback was usurped by the PingBack but both were abused by spammers too much so now most bloggers including myself have basically given up on them. I no longer show either below my posts. I am actually in the progress of updating old posts like this one. I deleted a bunch of the no longer valid trackbacks and pingbacks but now I’ve deleted a bunch more of my own posts to try and improve the quality of this blog. Someday I’ll have to delete the trackbacks and pingbacks but right now I just want a new job. It is too bad I can’t parlay all my WordPress and blogging knowledge into a book deal, if I was less honest I think I could have been a social media guru.

You’ll notice that comments are now closed this is likely due to this post being a magnet for spammers. Most of the comments blogs get are spam.
