DIY, Hobbies, & Interests

Remember when blogging was a hobby? People had a homepage which they maintained as they were passionate about a hobby or a band or a niche. Now blogging is seen as personal branding, people want to become social media influencers. They want brands to send them free products, they want to go on free trips, they want to be celebrities.

I’ve been blogging and maintaining a homepage for over twenty years. It definitely started as a hobby, I focussed on miniature painting, gaming particularly Warhammer 40,000, but I also wrote about bands I was passionate about and personal projects I was working on. Then I did an MBA and eventually the CFA® Program and I had to sacrifice my hobbies on the alter of my career.

I stopped painting miniatures, I stopped playing games, I even stopped playing guitar all in an attempt to pass three CFA exams. Eventually I did pass all three exams, so now I make time for miniature painting, sometimes I even play games, or my guitar and although I have no DIY project at the moment, I probably will fix an old piece of furniture again really soon.

If you want to follow my miniature painting exploits, that now has a separate blog. I am not currently playing any video games, but may again someday. I just prefer tabletop gaming and the tactility of guitar to being online, all the time. If you share some of my hobbies or personal interests you can peruse this blog archive or you can contact me using email or social media.

Built More Flat-pack Furniture

Sunday, September 5th, 2021

As alluded to in a previous blog posts, I recently moved into a new (to me) condo in Calgary’s Beltline. As part of my master plan I decided to buy a new bigger piece of flat-pack furniture to replace several IKEA shelves to store my CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays…

Popular Flickr Photos

Sunday, November 15th, 2020

I just uploaded my first photos to Flickr all year, and I’m a Flickr Pro. With no traveling in 2020 I didn’t have a lot to photograph but my apartment and neighbourhood. I’m not really a professional photographer, I don’t have a pro camera, I don’t do much if any post-production, but I have been posting photos online for a long time…

More Photogenic Beers

Sunday, November 15th, 2020

After living in Shanghai and doing my best to document the craft beer scene there in English, I ended up in Calgary during the Covid-19 pandemic. This led to a lot of social distancing and time spent on social media. It took a while but I finally uploaded the best beer photos I’ve taken over the last couple years…
