The Largest Employers in Vancouver
May 6th, 2010As part of my job search, I decided to take a different approach, as nowadays you have to be more proactive. Vancouver has a lot of small and medium sized companies but not a lot of Fortune 500 headquarters. I collected the following information on the largest employers in Vancouver British Columbia.
Updated Data
- Biggest private-sector employers in Metro Vancouver in 2014
- Biggest software companies in B.C. in 2014
Finding the biggest employers in Vancouver circa 2010 proved harder than just a quick Google search, easier to find was the top employers in BC/Vancouver as voted by somebody. I went through that list and some other websites and collected the following direct links to career websites.
- 6S Marketing
- airG
- BC Housing
- BC Hydro
- BC Lottery Corporation
- Clearly Contacts
- Davis LLP
- Goldcorp
- Golder Associates
- Growthworks Capital
- Harbour Air
- Ledcor
- Next Level Games
- Nintendo of Canada
- Parklane Homes
- Sierra Systems Group
- Sophos
- Telus
- Vision Critical
I never thought of looking for a job at BC Housing, I know a few executives there, and I have DTES cred. I also turned up more links on looking for a job in Vancouver. I haven’t used them all, but I checked the online job postings on all the companies listed above, some have no openings, some have several, alas none seem to be looking for me, with the possible exception of Vision Critical. I know a lot about technology and market research…
Update January 19th 2013
This post continues to be popular. I’ve written a new post with the best jobseeker advice I’ve found. I previously updated this post with the largest companies in BC by revenue, but that data is now two years out of date. Recently the list of Fortune’s best companies to work for in 2013 was posted to Twitter. Most, if not all of these are American companies, thus not headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have offices here. I shortened the list to just those that have a large presence in Vancity.
- Salesforce.com bought a Vancouver company
- Deloitte has a significant presence in Vancouver
- Ernst & Young LLP also has offices in Vancouver
- Marriott International has one or more large hotels in Vancouver
- Microsoft opened a new video game studio in Gastown recently
- TEKSystems posts jobs in Vancouver
- Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts runs one of the largest hotels in Vancouver
- Accenture also has offices in Vancouver

This post remains popular even though it is two years out of date. I don’t really know if I’m qualified to provide advise on finding a job anymore…
Here is an updated list of the largest companies in BC via revenue. Large revenue doesn’t automatically equal large workforce, but there is some correlation.

This post is somewhat popular in Google. I can’t say writing it or doing all the research has helped me that much as I’m still unemployed, or perhaps I’m unemployed again. I had another interview yesterday, but I’m tired of starting over. I just want to go someplace that wants me.
